How to run Synergy 3 at login on macOS

Help & Troubleshooting

Product:
Synergy 3
Operating system:
macOS

If you use Synergy to control multiple computers with a single keyboard and mouse, you’ll likely want it to start automatically when you log in to your Mac. Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up Synergy to run on login in macOS.

How to enable the setting in Synergy

In Synergy 3 there is an option to enable Synergy to run at login:

  1. Open Synergy
  2. Go to Local settings
  3. Press the enable button next to "Allow Synergy to control this computer on the login screen"

Disable Filevault

FileVault is a macOS feature that encrypts your drive. However, when enabled, FileVault requires you to manually decrypt the drive after each reboot, which can prevent some applications, like Synergy, from starting automatically at login.

If you prefer Synergy to launch at login, you may need to consider disabling FileVault.

  1. Open System Settings: Go to Apple Menu > System Settings and select Privacy & Security.
  2. Locate FileVault Settings: In the FileVault section, click on Turn Off FileVault.

After disabling FileVault, restart your Mac. Synergy should now run automatically at login.

Important Note: Disabling FileVault will make your files accessible to anyone who has physical access to your computer, so consider this trade-off carefully.
