How to install Synergy 3

You’ll need to install Synergy 3 on every computer you want to connect.

If you're having problems, you may want to check the basic troubleshooting steps.

For RC1: If you see an error related to connecting to the Background Service, please try steps outlined in the troubleshoot background service first, and then contact us for help if you're still having problems.

If you're updating from Synergy 1 or Synergy 2: Synergy 3 should update any existing installations. During the update process, your Synergy 1 and Synergy 2 config file won't be deleted, so if you ever want to go back, you should be able to restore your previous configuration.

Windows 10/11

1. Double click the .msi file you have downloaded
2. Click Next on the "Welcome to Synergy 3" screen
3. Click Next on the "Destination Folder" screen
4. Click Install on the "Ready to install" screen
5. Click Yes on the pop-up that appears with the message "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"
6. Click Finish in the "Complete the Synergy (64-bit) Setup Wizard" screen
7. You may need to reboot your PC after the installation for the best experience
8. Repeat the above steps on every Windows computer that you want to connect
9. The Synergy app should run automatically (you can also run from the Start menu)
10. Follow the instructions on screen to configure Synergy

macOS

1. Double click the .dmg file you have downloaded above
2. Drag Synergy (on the left) to the Applications folder (on the right)
3. Double click the Applications folder
4. Double click Synergy to run the app
5. Click Open when you see: "Synergy is an app downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?"
6. ‍Input your computer's password in the Synergy Password Prompt and click OK
7. Follow the on-screen guide to enable Synergy on the macOS Accessibility permissions list
8. Repeat the above steps on every macOS computer that you want to connect
9. Follow the instructions on screen to configure Synergy

Linux

1. Double click the .deb or .rpm file you have downloaded above
2. Click Install
3. Input your password and click OK
4. Repeat the above steps on every Linux computer that you want to connect
5. Run your new Synergy app using the method you normally use to run apps
6. Follow the instructions on screen to configure Synergy

Synergy can also be installed in the Terminal using commands, these vary depending on the Linux distro, an example for Ubuntu 22 is shared below.

Open the Terminal and run:

-code- sudo dpkg -i [.deb package name] -/code-

and the following command to resolve any dependency issues:

-code- sudo apt-get install -f -/code-
