Operating system and hardware requirements

Help & Troubleshooting

We work hard to make sure Synergy works on the latest operating systems, but we understand that many of our users still have legacy hardware that they need to use.

There are also some hardware requirements for Synergy:

  • An Ethernet or Wi-Fi network connection where both computers can see each other.
  • Each computer must have its own screen or screens (there is no video sharing feature).

Legacy operating systems

These operating systems are not officially supported by the very latest builds but may still work well on older builds, since Synergy has been around since 2001. If you're a business customer, and you require support for legacy operating systems, let's talk about Synergy Business.

  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP

macOS (previously Mac OS X)

  • macOS Sierra 10.12
  • Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11
  • Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10

While we don't officially support 32-bit Linux in our latest builds, we are able to offer older builds from our archive.

Other resources

If you're using a vintage operating system (a really old operating system used on vintage computer hardware), maybe Synergy Vintage could be of interest.
