v3.8.0-beta (September 29, 2026)
Features
- Copy and paste now shares up to 128 MB by default, with a new size limit setting that replaces the old 4 MB limit.
- The sidebar shows when a clipboard is being sent or received, and warns when one is over the size limit.
- A "Switch to next computer" hotkey action moves to the next connected computer, in alphabetical order.
- You can lock the cursor to the primary computer at startup, until you press Scroll Lock or your lock hotkey.
- Modifier keys can be turned off or mapped to Alt Gr, and each computer can set Alt Gr for itself.
- Horizontal scrolling can be inverted, and each computer has its own vertical and horizontal scroll speed.
- A computer can slow down its reconnection attempts when the primary has been away for a while.
- Search the log window, with each match highlighted as you step through them.
- Export the generated config to a file from Local settings.
- Use your own TLS certificate, or regenerate this computer's certificate.
- On Windows, the Core can run without the background service.
- Update checks can be turned off in Local settings.
Enhancements
- Images are now sent in the format they were copied in, instead of as uncompressed bitmaps, so more apps can paste them and large screenshots and photos fit well within the limit.
- Animated GIFs, SVG images, RTF rich text, WebP and TIFF images are now shared as they are, instead of being converted or left out.
- Large clipboards no longer hold up the mouse: a clipboard is now sent in small pieces behind your keyboard and mouse input, once the mouse comes to rest on the other computer.
- Clipboard sharing on Wayland now includes formatted text and JPEG, BMP, TIFF and WebP images.
- A computer now says when the primary refuses it because another computer with the same name is connected.
- A computer now warns when the primary uses a keyboard layout it doesn't have.
- The trust prompt shows both fingerprints in one box to compare, under "Show fingerprints (advanced)".
- The log level list now offers Info and Debug, with the numbered debug levels merged into them.
- Tooltips appear as soon as the pointer is over them.
- An external config file is now set up per computer from Local settings, with a warning first, instead of switching every computer at once.
- A computer keeps applying its settings when another computer uses a hotkey action it doesn't know yet.
- Settings that don't apply are greyed out instead of disappearing, and a switch that did nothing has been removed.
Bug fixes
Windows
- Stopped a large copy freezing the keyboard and mouse until the copying app had finished preparing its data.
- Stopped a Windows client disconnecting partway through a large clipboard sent over TLS.
- Corrected clipboard detection on a Windows client so every copy is shared, not only the first one after it receives a clipboard.
- Restored sharing of images that apps copy only as PNG, JPEG or other image files.
macOS
- Restored sharing of images copied on a Mac, and images sent to a Mac are now written as PNG, JPEG and TIFF so Mac apps can paste them.
- Stopped text shared to a Mac getting old-style carriage-return line breaks.
- Stopped a copy made just before moving off a Mac being missed.
- Stopped copying a list of files or links on a Mac hanging the clipboard read.
Linux and Wayland
- Corrected pasting on a Wayland server so a copy made on another computer pastes, instead of the old clipboard.
- Stopped a Wayland server re-sending an unchanged clipboard on every switch and emptying the other computers' clipboards.
- Stopped pastes on a Wayland server stalling while it offered clipboard formats it no longer had.
- Restored pasting large images into Qt apps on Wayland, and sharing large images copied from them.
- Restored image copy and paste on X11 with apps that use PNG or JPEG.
All computers
- Stopped a client dropping a healthy connection while receiving a large clipboard.
- Stopped every copy on a Mac or Windows computer being sent twice.
- Restored timing below a second, so settings such as the switch delay take effect as set.
- Local settings and Troubleshooting now use the full window height instead of scrolling in a small box.
