Synergy 3 Alpha 1.1

Synergy 3 is such a departure from both Synergy 1 and Synergy 2 that we do not advise having them installed in the same system at the same time.

For this reason, Synergy 1 will be automatically uninstalled on Windows during the installation of Synergy 3. However, we won’t delete your config file, so if you ever want to go back to Synergy 1 you should be able to restore your current configuration.

If you have Synergy 2 installed on Windows, or if you’re using macOS or Linux, you should uninstall Synergy 1/2 manually.

Also, you’ll need to install Synergy 3 on every computer you want to connect.

On Windows 10

Make sure to uninstall any previous version of Synergy you have in your system
Double click the .msi file you have downloaded above
Click Run anyway if a pop-up appears with the message "Windows protected your PC"
Click Next on the "Welcome to Synergy 3" screen
Click Next on the "Destination Folder" screen
Click Install on the "Ready to install" screen
Click Yes on the pop-up that appears with the message "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?"
Click Yes on the pop-up that appears with the message "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"
Click Finish in the "Complete the Synergy (64-bit) Setup Wizard" screen

On macOS

Make sure to uninstall any previous version of Synergy you have in your system
Double click the .dmg file you have downloaded above
Drag the Synergy icon (on the left) on top of the Applications folder icon (on the right)
Double click the Applications folder icon and double click Synergy in the new window
Click Open in the pop-up that appears with the message: "Synergy is an app downloaded from the internet. Are you sure you want to open it?"
‍Input your computer's password in the Synergy Password Prompt pop-up and click OK
‍Follow the on-screen guide to enable Synergy on the macOS Accessibility permissions list
Repeat the above steps on every macOS computer that you want to connect

On Linux

If you had previously installed Synergy 3 Alpha 1, open the terminal and run the following commands:
- systemctl --user stop synergy3.service && systemctl --user disable synergy3.service
- systemctl --user daemon-reload
- rm ~/.config/systemd/user/synergy3.service
- sudo apt remove synergy
If you have any other version of Synergy in your system, make sure to follow the instructions to uninstall it
Double click the .deb or .rpm file you have downloaded above
Click Install
Input your password and click OK
Debian: If that doesn't work, try running the command (assuming the .deb is in your Downloads folder)
- sudo apt install ~/Downloads/synergy_3.0.53_amd64.deb

If your system uses a display manager other than GDM or GDM3

Open the file loginLauncherPre.sh with your preferred text editor
Replace the following line:
- /bin/systemctl set-environment XAUTHORITY=/var/run/user/$GDM_ID/gdm/XAUTHORITY
With the following:
- For Systems using Light DM
- /bin/systemctl set-environment XAUTHORITY=/var/run/lightdm/root/:0
- For Systems using SDDM (untested)
- AUTH_LOC=`/usr/bin/find /var/run/sddm/ -type f`
  /bin/systemctl set-environment XAUTHORITY=$AUTH_LOC

We’ve been hard at work trying to develop a completely overhauled version of Synergy that we hope our users (both novice and advanced) will deeply enjoy.

However, we are a small team, and we’re also committed to improving Synergy 1 until Synergy 3 is ready for primetime, so there are still quite a few issues with Synergy 3 (that’s why it’s still a Super Early Alpha 😅 ).

We are aware of these and working hard to fix them shortly, but we still encourage you to let us know if you run into any of the following issues:

Connecting with TLS is not available (even when the setting is enabled on the Preferences).
Copy and paste of text, images, and files between computers might be very unreliable (only basic copy and paste functionality was properly tested).
You might experience a delay when trying to use Synergy on macOS login screen over WiFi (up to 40 seconds) and Ethernet (up to 10 seconds).
Auto-detect is working unreliably: there are some unsupported scenarios when connecting 3 or more computers.
On Windows, when the main window is closed/minimised there is no tray icon.
In some cases, you might be able to select "Use this keyboard and mouse" on more than one machine, which will result in not being able to use the keyboard and mouse from any of the computers.
Using hostname when setting up a new manual connection will not work.
There is currently no way of removing a computer after it has been added to Synergy.
Under Computer Preferences, the following options might not work as expected: Dead Corners, Fixes, and Modifier Keys.
Hotkey Configuration is heavily untested and should be assumed as not working correctly at the moment.
Also, don’t worry if the hotkeys button looks like it’s doing nothing… it’s just waiting for you to press a key (we're looking into improving that interface on future versions).
Although you may see some references to the following in the interface, they are not yet implemented and will not work at the moment: Pause Computer, Refresh Connection, Auto restart core, Local networking controls.

NOTE: A good way to get out of some of these situations is to open Synergy, go to "System preferences" > click "OPEN RESET OPTIONS", and follow the reset instructions.
