Where are all the options?

I was under the impression that Synergy 2 would have MORE to offer not less... I had hotkeys and server configs all setup for my systems and it seems I can't do anything to configure ANYTHING with this version of Synergy.

I'll have to user S1 for now until there is either a response explaining how to access server settings/configs or a major update because right now it honestly appears to be steps back.

For the moment, v2 is much more based around the autoconfig design. Configurability is coming in a future version, though I don't recall when it is being targeted for.

For the moment, if you need this functionality, stick to v1. v2 is coming along, just give it time.

I'm sorry this excuse is simply not good enough. I've been a relatively long term customer of Synergy, then Synergy Pro and now Synergy Pro 2. To quote from the sales email:

Quote

100% Seamless Guarantee:

My experience has been anything but seamless. Who's bright idea was it to make Synergy 2 Pro (not sure what I'm getting for my 'Pro' by the way) run as a background service without not only configurability but an inability to disable the service without a trip to the relevant services menu on PC, Mac or Linux.

And here you are trumpeting -

Quote

Synergy 2 now makes sharing one mouse and keyboard so simple and seamless that absolutely anyone can use it.

But the very people you're targeting with that messaging are the sort of people that are likely to be intimidated by changing things in system 'services' menus (that's assuming they know where to find them). And how about the simplicity of uninstalling Synergy 2 Pro -

Quote

Windows

First, uninstall Synergy using Add or remove programs (or Apps & features).

Next, run regedit and delete these registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Symless
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synergy
Now, delete these directories (if they exist):

C:\ProgramData\Symless
C:\ProgramData\Synergy v2
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Synergy
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Symless
Finally, reboot Windows to ensure that the hook DLL is completely unloaded.

macOS

First, open the Terminal app and run this command:

launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.symless.synergy.synergy-service.plist
Next, delete the Synergy app from the Applications directory.

Now, run these commands to remove the settings.

rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/Symless
rm -rf ~/Library/Synergy
Then, run this command to unload the preferences:

killall -u $USER cfprefsd
Finally, reboot your Mac which will remove the helper tool.

Linux

First, Remove the Synergy package using your package manager.

Finally, run these commands to remove your settings:

rm -rf ~/.config/Synergy/
rm -rf ~/.synergy/

Holy moly, that's what I call "simple and seamless".

And now we come to the main problems I've been having with Synergy Pro 2.

With things set up on both my Windows host system and OS X client, once I've moved my cursor over from my Windows 10 host, onto my OS X target screen and then returned it to my host Windows screen, the cursor becomes invisible on the OS X system if I attempt to use that system from it's native keyboard and trackpad. Using the Windows 10 system things are fine but any attempt to navigate on the OS X system results in an invisable cursor (I know the cursor is there because I can see the rollover effects). I can takeover the cursor that's been brought over from the Windows system but once the cursor is brought back over to the Win 10 screen. The cursor is invisible again on the OS X system.

I also have problems on the Windows system too. I've found I can force my OS X system to make the cursor visible (by tapping on the spacebar a few times) but then I can no longer move from the the Windows host to the OS X system. Luckily I found a simple way to restart the service on the Windows host (by pinning the service startup icon to my taskbar; but even that took some experimentation).

Now here's the deal. If the email marketing had been more honest (that Synergy Pro 2 was a work in progress) I would have happily put up with the problems. Instead I feel like I've been hoodwinked by an overly pushy salesman.

I never had too many problems with Synergy 1 and I saw the benefits of Synergy Pro as I wanted the extra security. But with Synergy Pro 2 it seems you're allowing the marketing folk to run the show with shallow untrue promises. I don't mind taking part in a beta program but I'm not going to pay for the privilege.

Not only do I want a refund but I expect to keep my license and get a free upgrade to Synergy Pro 3 whenever that comes along - when hopefully the lunatics will no longer be running the show at the asylum formerly known as Symless HQ!

Why on earth would you be entitled to a refund *and* a free upgrade to a new version?

It was sarcasm. But that aside I'm pretty disgusted that software this far from being fit for purpose was released in the first place with such brazen claims. And guess what for all the suggestions of a 100% no quibbles refund, nobody from Symless has got in touch.

While I agree with many of the things you've said here, it's important to keep in mind that this is a self-service support forum. If you need support directly from the developers, or if you want to request a refund, you should send an email to their support address (listed at the top of the thread list on this forum). I've found that they're pretty responsive and you should have no problems with receiving a refund if you don't want to wait for version 2.1 (which they claim will address most/all of these issues).

I have faith that Symless will get v2 together at some point, but at this point it is unusable for me and many others (I have to manually restart the service every day at least once a day and the lack of config details is a real drag) so I'm reverting and see my upgrade fee as an investment in the future. That said, after a few emails and an open ticket, support (Nick Bolton) referred me here directly as I don't believe they have a fix for any of this stuff at this time. Or are overwhelmed with support requests.

To me, this release seems premature and VERY beta. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for the upgrade.

I've uninstalled it for now - it's clearly not what I want or need.  Once I get access to actual settings and the like I'll probably give it another try.

I also reverted for now - the mac <--> windows key mappings are a pretty big deal for me, but I'm a big fan of the configuration-less mode.  Looking forward to 2.1

Today I encounter a new weirdness. The mouse cursors moves over to the OS X slave without problem, but no button presses are recognised.

But to go back to the non-configuration nature of Synergy 2, I'm always a fan of abstracting complexity but to have no user panel at all is a huge negative. A user still requires an on/off switch at the very least to reset Synergy when they encounter problems.
