Hmm... would you please also send over the same log segment from the client side? The one between clicking Apply and it connecting to the server.

Did you try the file copy in both directions?

So when clicking apply on the server I see the following

Server Log
-----------------
[2016-05-20T13:02:44] INFO: starting server

The client Log shows
--------------------------

When clicking apply on the client I see the following on the client side
------------------------
[2016-05-20T13:10:10] INFO: starting client

[2016-05-20T13:10:12] NOTE: connected to server

When clicking apply on the client I see the following in the server log
-----------------------------
[2016-05-20T13:10:06] NOTE: client "XPS15" has disconnected
[2016-05-20T13:10:06] INFO: jump from "XPS15" to "MONSTER" at 1920,1080

[2016-05-20T13:10:07] NOTE: accepted client connection
[2016-05-20T13:10:07] NOTE: client "XPS15" has connected

After pressing apply on the client for the above logs drag and drop seems to work most of the time in both directions. The log doesn't show anything in the client or server other than entering, leaving and switch messages most of the time regardless of success or failure. Once I got an error on the client

[2016-05-20T13:12:17] ERROR: drop file failed: drop target is empty

but the next drag worked. I would say 40 - 50% silently fail even now that it's working sometimes. It seems to fail more often if the mouse is moved rapidly across the screen boundary. I'm having the most consistent results dragging the file near the boundary hovering for a few hundred ms (estimate) and the slowly crossing the screen boundary.

No idea why clicking apply again on the client changed it. Apply on the server numerous times in the past made no difference.

Do you have any insight on why this got it to start working? Anything repeatable on sequencing of clicking apply on client and server, settings, or dragging speed / path that improves reliability would be appreciated. I am happy dealing with some quirks in this version if there is a repeatable set of happy path steps that work reliably.

Thanks,
Jon

The first thing i did check after i bought & installed was drag and drop... Sadly .. i mainly use Linux so the functionality just isn't there :(

It would be nice to have it, but no pressure :)

But you should write somewhere that drag&drop is not supported by linux, that would save me some time trying to figure out why it's not working, maybe some checkbox or bug...

Jon - I'm really glad it started working at least a little. One thing I have found is that if the mouse cursor travels across any other objects (file icons, application windows, etc) on its way to the screen edge, this interferes with the copy and it will fail.

Also, there seems to be an issue with Synergy detecting the path to the user's desktop. This is what I was looking for when I asked for the logs. It seems to fail much more often when Synergy is starting up after a fresh reboot. Maybe something about still being in the bootup process causes that function to fail? I don't know. I will try to narrow it down further when I get a chance.

Hi guys...

I'm running Synergy Basic. Server is Windows 7 and Client is Windows XP.

Drag and Drop files is not working. Would that be due to my version of windows?

Daniel,

Yes, Synergy's file copying feature is not available on Windows XP.

Using 1.8.5 and two Win10 pro boxes, I was able to get the drag and drop working by enabling auto-config and allowing it to install bonjour. Files now freely move between pcs in each direction.
