2 posts in this topic

got a window xp client and linux (scientific linux) server. The server seems to start up great. Started with command line and is waiting for clients and is listening on port 24800. But the windows client can't connect to the server. Log saids this: INFO: watchdog status: ok WARNING: failed to connect to server: Timed out NOTE: connecting to '192.168.1.76': 192.168.1.76:24800 WARNING: failed to connect to server: Timed out NOTE: connecting to '192.168.1.76': 192.168.1.76:24800 I have turned off the firewall and opened the proper ports on the windows machine and get the same results. On the windows machine (cmd) type netstat -o 5 got this ouput: Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:1411 localhost:24801 ESTABLISHED 1484 TCP windowspc1:1425 localhost:24801 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP windowspc1:1429 localhost:24801 ESTABLISHED 2904 TCP windowspc1:24801 localhost:1411 ESTABLISHED 556 TCP windowspc1:24801 localhost:1429 ESTABLISHED 556 TCP windowspc1:1436 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 2904 tive Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:1411 localhost:24801 ESTABLISHED 1484 TCP windowspc1:1429 localhost:24801 ESTABLISHED 2904 TCP windowspc1:24801 localhost:1411 ESTABLISHED 556 TCP windowspc1:24801 localhost:1429 ESTABLISHED 556 TCP windowspc1:1436 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 2904 Not sure what else to do? Hope to get some help here :)

also here is some netstat information from the windows xp client computer Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:2292 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 3172 ctive Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:2292 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 3172 ctive Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:2292 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 3172 ctive Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:2293 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 3172 ctive Connections Proto Local Address Foreign Address State PID TCP windowspc1:2293 linubox:24800 SYN_SENT 3172 Look like the windows computer is using the wrong port. The linux server is listening on 24800... I think i have opened up the port on the windows firewall. But from the looks of it, it's not open. I tried to use telent to the linux server using ipadress and port number.. Saids it fails to connect. Can some one please help me?
