I was quite happy with Synergy 1.7.2. FINALLY got THAT to work!!! But now I got a new client computer and needed to re-insatll and configure. I am using a Mac as server and windows PC as client. So what does that error code mean? I already disabled SSL encryption, and allowed windows firewall on the PC CLIENT.

Esther - it looks like there is an issue with the configuration. In the screenshot you posted, I can see "cannot read configuration" - but I can't see the reason for it. It's off to the right of what we can see now. If you can run Synergy again, and scroll the log to the right, I hope the reason will become clear. Post a screenshot of that part, and I bet we will be able to find the problem.

I get this every once and a while. A temporary file in memory is most likely missing or corrupt. Rebooting the server works for me. Try rebooting the server machine and let me know if it works. Make sure you say off, not suspend/sleep.

Wait a second. Why is Synergy looking for your config file in two different locations? This is what I get for normal output:
NOTE: config file: /tmp/qt_temp.hZ2527 NOTE: log level: INFO INFO: started server, waiting for clients
For some reason your server is looking for the config file in two (?!) different locations. Copy and past isn't great with images but I see that the ERROR is looking at a completely different file.
INFO: ... Synergy.VR3193 ... ERROR: cannot read configuration ... Synergy.BT3193
Those extensions are different. If you didn't get a file not found error then I would assume your Mac had learned to think for itself! My previous post mentioned rebooting. Other ideas include exporting your config to a file and manually loading it.

ok heres the complete code: I figured its a configuration thing, because when i use "use existing configuration", Synergy runs. but then it doesn't connect to client. so where would i find "/var/folders/nt/dxhb70bd569fpxxsrfv1sj_c0000gn/T/Synergy.VRB230": read error: line 34:" ?

You don't really need to find the configuration file at that path. It wouldn't help you in this case anyway. What you can do is click Configure Server, and then switch to the Hotkeys tab. Delete anything you find in here, click OK, switch back to Configure Interactively, then click Apply. If this is supposed to be the client, you'll have to switch it to Server mode temporarily to do the above. Then you can switch back to Client mode at the end.

Hmmm, it's hard to see what the problem is here. Would you please reboot both systems and post new screenshots of both Synergy windows?

Hmmm, still the same. Still very odd. On the server, open the Synergy menu and go into Preferences and see if the Port is still set to 24800. Did it get changed? That could also cause the behavior showing in the logs, but I don't see it very often.

Glad you got it working! :D I do want to recommend you keep an eye on future releases to get encryption working. Considering that Synergy is designed for remote control having the option to enable SSL is a very good idea.

I do highly recommend going to 1.7.4 once it comes out, there are some very important bug fixes in there, but I would totally understand holding off for a while after that.
