Synergy 2: Manually restarting services

Sometimes, the background service can get into a bad state. We're working on the bugs that cause this. The simplest workaround right now is to restart your computer. But if you don't have time for that, you can try manually restarting the background services.

Windows

  1. Open the Services program (Run > services.msc)
  2. Find the Synergy service
  3. Click the Restart button
  4. Go back to Synergy, right-click on a computer and select "Share from"
  5. If the problem is not resolved, repeat all steps on every computer

Mac

  1. Open the Terminal app (found in Applications > Utilities)
  2. Paste and run: launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.symless.synergy.synergy-service.plist
  3. Paste and run: sudo killall synergy-core
  4. Ignore the message, "No matching processes..."
  5. Paste and run: launchctl load /Library/LaunchAgents/com.symless.synergy.synergy-service.plist
  6. Go back to Synergy, right-click on a computer and select "Share from"
  7. If Synergy is closed, paste and run: open -n /Applications/Synergy.app
  8. If the problem is not resolved, repeat all steps on every computer

Linux

  1. Open the Terminal program
  2. Run: sudo systemctl restart synergy
  3. Go back to Synergy, right-click on a computer and select "Share from"
  4. If the problem is not resolved, repeat all steps on every computer

Don't worry if you see a loading status bar or grey screen (it may in fact be working). This is another bug that we're urgently working on fixing. If sharing still doesn't work, try right-clicking on a computer then selecting "Share from". 

If that doesn't work, please check the service logs:

Windows: C:\ProgramData\Symless\Synergy\synergy-service.log
Mac: ~/Library/Synergy/synergy-service.log
Linux: /var/logs/synergy/synergy-service.log
