Beta5 and Ubuntu not playing properly together

6 posts in this topic

Hi, Just updated to beta5.

Win10 plays wonderfully together with other win10 machines.

I have added the ports needed to windows firewall on both win10 machines. The ubuntu machine is currently running without any kind of firewall.

Ubuntu 17.10 is a completely different story. First of all, I am unable to get the service started via systemctl. I have tried all the tricks posted on this forum with no joy.
The only way I can get Synergy2 started is by running the service manually (/usr/bin/synergy-service).
When Synergy gets up and running, it connects to a server without any issues. It will however not function as a server. On the other clients I only get a connection refused when trying to connect to the ubuntu server.

One wish I have is the ability to force one machine to remain as a server, even if I use the mouse and/or keyboard on the other clients. Preferably with a customisable shortcut to toggle on/off said feature on the fly.

The log snippet below is from the ubuntu machine, and has been cut to only include the last restart of the service.

Could you try pressing F12?

Tried that several times already, with no joy. And the only way I've been able to get the win10 box to become server again has been to use the F12 key. Often several times before I got a reaction.

Although I gave it another shot just now, and after about a minute or so, the win10 box actually managed to connect to the ubuntu server! And yes, I have tried waiting much longer on previous attempts. And now it works as advertised, with fast reconnects for both machines when they become server.

Any thoughts to why I cannot get the ubuntu service to run? would be awesome not having to run synergy manually after logging in.

Could you check the service log when running from systemctl?

/var/log/synergy/synergy-service.log

It actually didn't put anything in that log, but I had a look in syslog (which is getting spammed by synergy, btw), and noticed that it was trying to run the old synergyd daemon. I then realized that I had put in an override for the service for beta4 where I specified the old file. After removing that, reloading and starting the service, Synergy fired on all cylinders and now runs as a daemon/service :)

Thank you for all your help and effort, not just to me, but to everyone you help on this forum. It's not often you see the CEO this involved in helping on a forum like this. That tells me you care about us, your customers and users, and not just our money :)

I love both Synergy and our customers, I hope that shows.

Glad you got it working! :)
