Unable to connect, server refused client with name

8 posts in this topic

Hi there,

Just bought the product. It looked promising until I started running into this error during setup. I'm running a windows server with a osx client.

When I try to establish a connection, I get this:

[2017-05-23T02:21:41] NOTE: accepted client connection
[2017-05-23T02:21:41] WARNING: unrecognised client name "macbook", check server config
[2017-05-23T02:21:41] NOTE: disconnecting client "macbook"

From the client side it looks like this:

[2017-05-23T02:21:06] NOTE: connecting to '192.168.0.136': 192.168.0.136:24800
[2017-05-23T02:21:06] ERROR: server refused client with name "macbook"
[2017-05-23T02:21:06] WARNING: failed to connect to server: server refused client with our name
[2017-05-23T02:21:07] NOTE: connecting to '192.168.0.136': 192.168.0.136:24800
[2017-05-23T02:21:07] ERROR: server refused client with name "macbook"

Tips?

Just now, Paul Suarez said:

Please configure your server machine using the steps in Getting started with Synergy knowledge base article.

That's the thing, I'm not seeing any clients show up as shown in the video.

You need to add the client on the Configure Server... interface first.

i have had the exact same problem and i am kicking myself on how simple the fix is.
you need to make sure you click on the "configure server..."  button and as you drag and drom your desktop where you want them that you name them exacly the same name as your screen name that you entered in to the setting window.
hopefully this helps.

I've figured it out eventually. As a webdesigner I find the UI extremely confusing and the tutorials are not clear enough.

I do believe the program could benefit from built-in walkthrough for adding an endpoint. Such as thing would reduce your support costs drastically.

Thanks for the update and the feedback @Ajdin. We are going to make a lot of changes with Synergy's user interface on v2. Although, we can't provide an ETA yet. What we can assure you is that our developers are burning the midnight oil to make Synergy even better for everyone. ;)
