Linux Client Power Management

Running synergy server on Windows 10, and a client on Ubuntu 16.04. The server's power management features are working correctly (screen turn off after 20 minutes of no use), but the client does not. 

The (linux) client screensaver is kicking in as expected, but the screen-off is never triggering. If I disable synergy all works perfectly on the server and client.

I've seen a few threads about fixing screen-saver and power management issues when windows is the client, but not linux.

Can anyone help?
