Third button (scroll wheel) sending right click

I am using a Windows 10 machine as a host and an OS X 10.11 machine as a client. I use 3D programs like SketchUp which uses the third button (pressing down on the scroll wheel) to activate a pan feature (for example). When I drag the mouse over from the host machine to the client and press the third button, it sends a right click command instead of the third button command. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

Update: the behavior is as follows: the third button is send but a right click is added. Also, to be clear, I am pressing and holding down the third button.
