I can also confirm this. When copying from client and trying to paste on server, client gets dicsonnected. Client logs include: [2016-04-06T12:57:29] WARNING: failed to connect to server: server already has a connected client with our name [2016-04-06T12:57:30] NOTE: connecting to '**.**.9.89': **.**.9.89:24444 [2016-04-06T12:57:30] NOTE: server fingerprint: **************** [2016-04-06T12:57:30] INFO: connected to secure socket [2016-04-06T12:57:30] INFO: server ssl certificate info: /CN=Synergy [2016-04-06T12:57:30] ERROR: server already has a connected client with name "**-**" Server logs include: [2016-04-06T12:59:46] WARNING: a client with name "**-**" is already connected [2016-04-06T12:59:46] NOTE: disconnecting client "**-**" [2016-04-06T12:59:46] NOTE: client "**-**" has disconnected [2016-04-06T12:59:48] NOTE: accepted client connection [2016-04-06T12:59:48] INFO: accepted secure socket After some time the client connects but performance is extremely poor (lagging on mouse movement and so on). I am guessing this is happening because client keeps disconnecting. Client Details: Ubuntu 15.10 x64 Synergy v1.7.6 Server Details: Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Synergy v1.7.6 Update: Quitting and restarting Synergy on both machines fixes this. I can also confirm it happens without SSL.

Thirded - Not sure what logs I would need to provide, but I am running server on Kubuntu 14.04, Windows 7 Enterprise client I don;t lose connection or performance, just the copy/paste between systems. Clipboard just stays local until I restart the server

Same here, Debian 4.4.2-1 + Win8.1 Enterprise, 32-bit synergy. Copy from Windows to Linux causes instant freeze of synergys and no debug messages are recorded (or if yes, then I can't figure out where). Other way around it works fine (linux->win). It has been like this since I upgraded to 1.75 from 1.62 which worked fine for a year or more, now 1.76 is still the same. Really frustrating to kill synergys process and then start it again and I need a copy paste a lot (network tech). I guess I will downgrade to 1.62 if I can find install packets somewhere. Edit: Refined the problem a little. I just noticed that if I copy something from Windows and paste it there, then the synergys does not crash on Linux side and I can paste it no problems on Linux side. This is a clumsy workaround but aren't they all like that? :) Edited by Guest

Almost the same here. Kubuntu 15.10 64bit (server) + Win7Ent 64 bit (client) (I've seen this annoying behavior for quite some time with earlier versions of synergy and Kubuntu as server + win7ent as client) How to reproduce (sometimes it is necessary to do this several times to catch this bug): 1. Ctrl-c some text on Win7 2. Move to Kubuntu (you dont even need to ctrl-v here, only move cursor to server) Log on client: [2016-04-21T13:35:10] NOTE: server is dead [2016-04-21T13:35:10] WARNING: failed to connect to server: server is not responding [2016-04-21T13:35:11] NOTE: connecting to '10.0.1.36': 10.0.1.36:24800 [2016-04-21T13:35:26] WARNING: failed to connect to server: Timed out --->8---cut--->8--- Log on server: nothing unusual =( Connection between server and client fails until i restart server process. I did some research. I've enabled debug2 mode, and if i ctrl-c large amount of text and then moving cursor to server i'm getting: [2016-04-21T13:25:38] DEBUG2: read property 375 on window 0x02400050: bytes=5073 *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/bin/synergys terminated ======= Backtrace: ========= --->8---cut--->8--- And then the server process restarts. This behavior occurs only when debug2 is enabled and i'm copying to clipboard large amount ot data (on client). So (OMG) may be this additional bug is related only to debug2 mode.

If you synergys survives then it has to be some malformed data on windows clipboard which is not handled well by synergys as "unpasted" form.

I was just able to confirm I can copy from Linux and paste to Windows, but not vice-versa.... Any logs I can grab/gather to help troubleshoot this? I have made myself pretty reliable on this working.

Investigated this more: When I use "shift+ins" to make the work around paste on windows side and move the cursor to linux side then the linux synergys hangs. If I use mouse context menu and paste whatever I have copied from Windows side on the same side, then move the cursor to Linux side, both synergys and the copied material survives.

I do have the same problem, when copying from the client (win10) to the server (debian), pasting doesn't work and I can't move the mouse back to client screen. I have to restart it so it can works again. It is a bit random it might or might not crash for the same text.

Server : Linux Mint 17 64bit, Synergy 1.7.6 Client : Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Synergy 1.7.6 Not using SSL Can confirm that synergys crashes on server side when clicking 'copy' on client side. Any time i try and copy on the windows client, synergys crashes on the linux server and throws a buffer overflow (pasted below) This is a REAL pain! sometimes this seams to work ok but most of the time now, it just crashes. As i use my windows box purely as a connection to my company intranet and email and do most of my work on my linux box, this is getting more and more of a show stopper :( Anyone who is getting a crash on a linux server, try starting synergys from command line in a terminal, leave it running like that until you hit the problem, see if you get anything output when synergys crashes, if running from the GUI, you dont seem to get the crash dump anywhere *that i have found anyway!) Is this issue receiving any attention? Is there something affected users can provide to assist? I have to stop/restart multiple times a day for this issue, and would love to see it fixed.

I can confirm I'm also have this problem on Synergy 1.7.6 (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Server and OSX 10.11.5 Client) It seems when certain data is in the clip board (client) that it will crash the server and will not automatically reconnect - I usually have to end up having to restart both client and server apps and hope that the next transfer of clip board data doesn't just immediately crash the service again. In fact, this has probably been a probably with Synergy for awhile now but it definitely seems to be worse in 1.7.6. I'll try Matt's suggestion to get more info on the crash itself.... -Tyler

I just wanted to add this happens to me in CentOS 7 too. So it's not just Debian. It's not a 100% crash rate, but like 99%. Reverting back to 1.7.5 So that I can have a working clipboard...

I'm not seeing a server side error at this time, but I do notice that periodically the server will be unable to accept a secure connection from client (possibly after being disconnected from the network). The error in the client I see is: [2016-06-08T12:43:54] WARNING: failed to connect to server: server is not responding [2016-06-08T12:43:55] NOTE: connecting to '10.66.18.129': 10.66.18.129:24800 [2016-06-08T12:44:07] ERROR: failed to connect secure socket [2016-06-08T12:44:08] NOTE: disconnected from server Once in this state, I'm not able to reconnect until I actually restart the synergys process/ daemon on the server. Once restarted, it works fine without any other changes. -Tyler

Folks, I'm generally having a lot of stability issues with Synergy lately and they are difficult to trace back. How can I enable better logging / debugging to get more useful info to the devs here? I'm seeing issues which cause me to have to restart the server (no error per se - synergy just stops working between screens until I either restart the client or the server). One of the triggers seems to be passing clipboard data back and forth but I don't have the evidence / data to confirm yet. Over time, the server will hang on to an old connection and won't allow the client to reconnect and starts saying "client already connected / disconnecting" loop. I find myself having to restart both the client and / or server like multiple times per hour - it's definitely making synergy a less effective productive tool and has me looking at other options at this point :( These issues may be exacerbated by the fact that I'm on a laptop / desktop and constantly losing connection to network but that's definitely not a signifant piece in this problem as far as I can tell at this point. Thanks, -Tyler

Finally got some errors related to copy / paste but they are probably not super helpful without additional details :( [2016-06-14T11:52:16] ERROR: corrupted clipboard data, expected size=41 actual size=4 [2016-06-14T11:52:16] ERROR: corrupted clipboard data, expected size=4 actual size=41 [2016-06-14T11:52:16] ERROR: corrupted clipboard data, expected size=41 actual size=4 [2016-06-14T11:52:16] ERROR: corrupted clipboard data, expected size=41 actual size=45 After seeing these, I could not get a connection from the client until I restarted the server daemon. -Tyler
Thirded - Not sure what logs I would need to provide, but I am running server on Kubuntu 14.04, Windows 7 Enterprise client I don;t lose connection or performance, just the copy/paste between systems. Clipboard just stays local until I restart the server
I just want to second that. Since many have the same issue and they reported their logs, I'll just share my configuration. My main server is on Fedora 24 x64 beta (not Mint 18 x64 beta) [Edit this line] My client machine is Windows 7x64. I also installed Ditto on my windows machine. I do lots of small copy/paste. Sometimes it can be images. It does not matter whether I copy from my server machine or client machine it just occurs. I do admit that it happens most of the time from windows. I also tried to switch between server/client machine, but it was worse, not from failure point of view but from limitations like "lock screen" on Linux client and other strange behaviors. This is why my main settings are: Linux as server and Windows as client. Although I need to stop/start the Synergy server few times a day, and sometimes even restart it, It is a valuable tool for my daily work. Saar

Same here - Fedora 23 server, Windows 8.1 client Copy-pasting from Windows always causes disconnection, Linux->Windows always works. The other day an attempt to paste from Windows caused the Linux box to lock up completely requiring a reboot!

I have now gone from just not bringing the clipboard to the server from the client, to actually losing connection by just copying and pasting a lot on the client, and then switching to the server at which time I can't go back to the client until I stop and start the service Please tell me someone is looking into this, as I have pretty much made myself reliant on this program....
